"Contemporary Issues" - April 14, 2010

Alcohol, dancing and TV/movie viewing

Although there is no biblical mandate strictly against drinking, there is a lot to take into consideration when deciding whether or not I want to be someone who drinks at all. It is unbiblical to get drunk and I’m sure nobody disagrees on this point, but does that mean we cannot drink at all? Not at all, even Jesus drank whine. So then when is it too much? I think, for me personally, even a little can be too much. That is why I have decided to set my standards high when it comes to drinking. In the future, when I am old enough and no longer an intern, I will only drink in private, with my husband, on special occasions. For me, I think that a glass of whine would be a nice touch to a romantic night. Although, I would prefer it if this didn’t happen often. There are always just as good replacements like sparkling cider; it’s delicious, pretty and non-alcoholic!!

In regards to dancing, there are forms that are not okay. Personally, I love ballroom dancing, but I wouldn’t ballroom dance with just anyone; just my husband. When it comes to going out to clubs to go dancing and things of that sort; I’d rather not be found in those places. Those forms of dancing only lead to lusting, immorality and women are treated degradingly. That’s why I choose not to go to those places to dance.

When it comes to what I watch in regards to TV and movies, I have to be really careful. I find myself being really wounded my even the smallest things. Even some cartoon shows have offensive references in them. Personally, I always check the ratings and why it is rated that way and you can judge TV shows by the commercials.

In this world, we need to watch how we act, what we do and what we put before our eyes to live above reproach and shine for Jesus in this world. :)
