A Proverbs 31 Woman
The proverbs 31 woman is a model for many christian women to aspire to emulate. She is looked up to and honored by anyone who meets her, even the people of the world. So what does it take to be that kind of a woman? Going through proverbs 31 could show us.
Starting in verse 10-12, the “wife of noble character” is described as one who can be trusted and will “not hinder her husband.” This is something I think has been neglected in our society today. A woman is to stand behind her husband and help him along, but today, we see woman trying to compete with their husbands. This honors him in no way and shows that we have no respect for him, or God in that matter. We should avoid this attitude at all costs as to not bring shame to our household.
From verses 12-24, we see how hard the proverbs 31 woman works, this shows that we don't have to stand idly by as our husbands do all the work, but we are to help and do our part as well. Woman these days either desire to work so these verses support them or they are lazy so they should move us, as woman, to work in whatever way supports our husbands and our families; to take care of them and watch over them.
Verses 25-31 talk about her character and disposition. The proverbs 31 woman is confident and strong. She is attentitive and her family blesses her. Although this whole chapter can teach us a lot about a wife of noble character, this revelation is one I believe to be most neglected in today’s culture: “Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Reward her for all she has done.” (30-31) It’s not about our faces or what we wear, ladies. In the end, it will get us nothing, so we should aspire to be a woman of noble character; fearing the Lord and doing all we can to bless and serve those around us in order to bring glory to God.
What we should learn from Proverbs 31 is that we: as Christian woman, are called to live above the ways and behaviors of this world. We are to honor our husbands and stand behind them. We are to put our hands, busily, to the tasks before us, and be a light of kindness and courage as well as confidence and gentleness. We are to not worry ourselves with our physical beauty, but spend our efforts on our spiritual looks, being sure that we resemble our King in all we do. That, and so much more, is what it takes to be a Proverbs 31 woman.
