Descriptive Essay - Oct, 3, 2010

Graduation and Arrival day

I am a January intern in the Honor Academy. We usually have a very different experience compared to the Augusts, simply because the internship is built for interns to begin primarily in August. During transition, everyone leaves and hundreds of brand new interns arrive. This can be extremely stretching for those of us who are there to experience it all. August is a very unforgettable time for a January intern. Specifically because of three major events that occur in the Augusts’ lives.

The night of the Gala before August graduation was one I’ll never forget. Everyone looked so grown up and ready to go and conquer the world. I remember sitting with my family core and trying not to think about all of the people that were leaving. All I wanted to do was get up and walk around to all of the long white tables to say goodbye one more time. Graduation was coming too soon.

The next morning, I felt like an outsider looking into the sea of people I had grown to know and love so much. They were in their uniforms, and as they made their ways to their seats, they had a very lively bounce in their steps. I knew how ecstatic they were. Who was I to be distraught about what was about to happen? One by one their names were called and they were sent off to their new beginnings. I was so proud of them.

One week later, I woke up and was extremely excited. The day I had been working on all year had finally come. The Honor Academy mobilization department set up the SAC and the new interns finally started to arrive. Each one totally different then the person I imagined as I talked to them over the phone over these past 8 months. I look back on it now, and remember what some of my current roommates looked like on that day, and how much they have changed already.

Those three events began a brand new Honor Academy experience into play for me. When the 2010 August class left, they were adults ready to take Jesus’ life giving message to the ends of the earth. When the 2011 August class arrived, they looked like high school kids fresh from the classrooms. I know how much the old Augusts meant to me, and now I know how much the current Augusts will mean to the next Januaries. Watching all of this happen right before my eyes leaves me so astounded by God’s intricate work. The month of August was one that I won’t forget.
